1-957 SUMMER SESSION ANNOUNCEMENT—
a variety of offerings for under-
graduate or graduate credit will be
available during the i 957 summer sess-
;on of Stout State College, according
to a preliminary announcement released
by administrative officials of the

COLLEGE,

Because of the lengthened summer
session perioo, a graduate student
can complete a master of science
degree'. by attending four summer sess-
IONS, Formerly, a minimum of five
summers was required to complete a
master's degree.

Also, because of the new summer
program, undergraduate students who
attend three summer sessions and
carefully choose their courses during
those sessions, may shorten by almost
a full year the time required to earn
a four-year bachelor of science de-
GREE.

The dates for the six-week sess-
ion will be June 24 through August 2.
enrollees may complete six under-
graduate or graduate credits, or a
combination of the two,

From August 5 through August |6,
Driver Education and other courses will
complete the summer ..sess i on offerings.

ENROLLMENT AT STOUT STATE COLLEGE—
Enrollment in the Wisconsin State
Colleges, of which Stout is now a part,
this year set a new record. In the
• autumn ll,304 students registered at.

THE 10 COLLEGES, A |4 PERCENT RISE IN

the number of students over that of the
previous year,

Stout State College, too, set a
new enrollment record. during the
initial registration period 1159 young

PEOPLE ENROLLED. ADDITIONAL. STUDENTS
BEGAN THEIR. ATTENDANCE' AT THE OPENING
OF THE SECOND NINE WEEKS,

IN THE YEARS SINCE 1952, STATE

College enrollments have jumped more

THAN 75 PERCENT. On THE AVERAGE, THE
INCREASES HAVE MEANT THE EQUIVALENT OF
ADDING TO THE STATE COLLEGES EACH YEAR
A NEW STUDENT BODY OF MORE THAN 1200

students to be housed and educated,

What do these statistics mean as
far as Stout, your college, is con-
cerned? Well, for one thing they
indicate that stout needs ■ your contin-
ued interest and effort to inform
students with appropriate vocational
goals and scholastic ability of the
excellent opportuni ties which a stout
education affords,

COLLEGE PLACEMENT OFFICE REPORTS—
The demand for graduates of Stout
State College continues to increase.
Increased enrollments in high schools
have resulted in a greater need for
teachers and the rapid expansion in
business and industry has created un-
usual opportunities for stout grad-
UATES „ Thus schools in need of teach-
ers of Industrial Arts and Home Econ-
omics ARE FINDING THEMSELVES IN DIRECT

competition with industry and business.

The teaching of Home Economics
still appears to be the most attractive
calling for stout's women graduates.
Of eighty-seven graduates in 1956,
fifty-nine entered the teaching field
at an average first-year salary of
$3657.35 for the school year.

In Industrial Arts, schools are
competing very successfully with in-
DUSTRY. Only about ten percent of the

MALE GRADUATES IN i 956 WENT INTO IN-
DUSTRY. THE REMAINDER ENTERED MILITARY
SERVICE, GRADUATE SCHOOL OR TEACHING.
ElGHTY-FOUR MEN GRADUATES OF A TOTAL
OF II? ARE TEACHING AT AN AVERAGE
SALARY OF $3,883.82 FOR THOSE WITH THE
B»S. DEGREE AND $^239.17 FOR THOSE
WITH THE' M.S. DEGREE. It IS EXPECTED
THAT AVERAGE SALARIES- FOR 1957 GRAD-
UATES WILL BE ABOUT $100 ABOVE THESE
AMOUNTS.

The Stout Placement Office, with '
only six Home Economics graduates
available, was called upon to fill

SIXTY-SEVEN Mil Dr-YEAR VACANCIES; IN NINE

different states. three women signed
to teach in Wisconsin, in response to
twenty-four calls j one went to each
of the states of michigan, minnesota
and California, For the approaching
1957-58 school year, sixty-three calls
have already been RECEIVED FROM SCHOOLS
in ten different states.

the same general situation holds
true in the areas of industrial arts.
For ten men available, at mid-year there
were seventy-six calls for teachers
and many additional requests from in-
DUSTRY. Seven mid-year graduates took
teaching positions in wisconsin and
one in Minnesota. Two men went into
1 ndustry.

Eighty calls for Industrial Arts
teachers, these calls distributed
among twelve oifferent states, have
already been received for the forth-
coming 1957-58 school year,

YOU CAN HELP YOUR ALMA MATER—

Yes, if Stout is to maintain its

PROPER PLACE WITH THE OTHER STATE COLL-
EGES, Stout needs students directed
here by our best source of recruitment
— our loyal alumni. but'stout does not
seek students for mere numbers alone.
Instead, your, college seeks stu-
dents who can help Stout and whom S.tout
can help — educationally, socially, and
vocationally. Anq the better and more
vital your college now and' in the
future, the better the reputation of
the degree which you hold.

Finally, Stout seeks to obtain
the number of students which will per-
mit the college to operate at maximum

EFFICIENCY. In OTHER WORDS, THE NEW
BUILDING PROGRAM AT YOUR COLLEGE WILL
PROVIDE FACILITIES WHICH WILL ACCOMO-

DATE MANY ADDITIONAL STUDENTS,

.'HEN

these additional students are enrolled,
it will be possible to provide the most
efficient instruction at the lowest poss-
ible per capita cost in fees, housing
and other student charges.

a number of scholarships and var-
ious grants-in-aid are availa8le from
the college for students who meet cer-
tain qualifications. often these
opportunities are overlooked sy stud-
ents and their aov i sors who feel that-
such qualifications are usually .
extreme. This is not the case and
alumni knowing of students whose vo-
cational or athletic interests attract
them to Stout should contact the
Pjr.?J-£S, of - Student P ersonnel Services ,
Stout State College, to obtain the
necessary information.

Stout State College — your college
— is now part of a State College Sys-
tem WHICH IS EXPANDING, OFFERING GREAT
OPPORTUNITY TO THOSE COLLEGES WHICH
ARE ABLE TO KEEP PACE WITH THE GROWTH
OF THE WHOLE SYSTEM. As ALUMNI YOU
ARE IN THE BEST POSSIBLE POSITION TO
POINT OUT THE ADVANTAGES OF STOUT TO
STUDENTS WHO ARE FITTED FOR ATTENDANCE
HERE, V'l'E EARNESTLY ASK YOU TO MAKE
USE OF THAT OPPORTUNITY FOR THE GOOD
OF YOUR COLLEGE AND, INDIRECTLY,
YOURSELF,
